Three salsas, four kinds of tamales and a bean dip people ask us about by name — all made in small batches by one Chico family. Find us at both downtown markets, or have us feed your event.
Everything below is made in small batches by our own family. Pick a jar, take a dozen home for the freezer, or order enough to feed a room.
Three salsas, three heat levels, all made in small batches. Buy two and every guest at your table is looked after.

Rich, smoky, and full of bold roasted flavor — the jar most people come back for a second time.

Bright, zesty, and packs the perfect spicy punch — tomatillo green, and the hottest jar we make.

Smooth and mellow with just a hint of tangy sweetness — the jar for kids, grandparents and anyone who does not want to sweat.
Steamed in the husk the traditional way — pork, chicken, vegetarian and a sweet pineapple one for dessert.

Tender, seasoned pork wrapped in soft masa — the tamale people buy by the dozen and then come back for.

At Butte Valley Salsa & More, we’re all about bringing the fresh, authentic taste of Mexico to our neighbors in Chico and the surrounding towns. We’re a family-run food stand dedicated to serving the best homemade salsas and tamales — just like abuela used to make.
From carefully selected ingredients to time-honored recipes, every batch is made with love, tradition and a passion for good food. Whether you’re picking up a jar of our signature salsa for your next BBQ or ordering a dozen tamales for a family gathering, we’re here to make every meal a little more flavorful.
We know food has to look as good as it tastes. Every batch is prepared with care — and if you are not satisfied, we will go the extra mile to make it right.
A jar for the fridge, a dozen for the freezer, or a full spread for a hundred people. Same kitchen, same recipes.
We are downtown Thursday evenings in season and every Saturday morning year round. Walk up, taste before you buy, take jars home.

From Chico locals who found us at the market.
I’ve tried salsas all over Chico, but nothing beats the rich, smoky flavor of the Red Roasted. The tamales are just like the ones my grandma used to make — full of flavor and so comforting. Every visit is a treat!
Stopped by on a whim and now I’m hooked! The Verde Hot Salsa has the perfect kick, and the Sweet Pineapple Tamales are my new favorite dessert. You can taste the love in every bite.
The veggie tamales are a lifesaver for my family get-togethers — everyone loves them, even the meat-eaters! Always fresh, always delicious. Highly recommend to anyone looking for real homemade flavor.

Both spots are here, or follow us on Facebook for any changes.

Yes. Our veggie tamales are made as their own recipe rather than a meat one with the meat left out, and our salsas are vegetarian. We cook in one family kitchen, so if you have a strict requirement please ask us at the booth and we will be straight with you about it.
