Testimonials

What others are saying.

From Chico locals who found us at the market.

Nothing beats the Red Roasted.

I’ve tried salsas all over Chico, but nothing beats the rich, smoky flavor of the Red Roasted. The tamales are just like the ones my grandma used to make — full of flavor and so comforting. Every visit is a treat!

Now I’m hooked.

Stopped by on a whim and now I’m hooked! The Verde Hot Salsa has the perfect kick, and the Sweet Pineapple Tamales are my new favorite dessert. You can taste the love in every bite.

Everyone loves them, even the meat-eaters.

The veggie tamales are a lifesaver for my family get-togethers — everyone loves them, even the meat-eaters! Always fresh, always delicious. Highly recommend to anyone looking for real homemade flavor.

Still not sure?

Frequently asked questions.

Where is Butte Valley Salsa located?

We are a family food stand based in Chico, California, and you will find us at two downtown markets every week — the Thursday Night Market on Thursday evenings, 6:00pm – 9:00pm, and the Saturday farmers market, 7:30am – 1:00pm, year round. Both spots are here, or follow us on Facebook for any changes.

What kind of salsas and tamales do you make?

Three salsas at three heat levels — Red Roasted (smoky, medium), Verde Hot (tomatillo, hot) and Mild Orange (mellow, barely warm) — and four tamales: pork, chicken, veggie and a sweet pineapple one for dessert. Plus our bean dip, party packs by the dozen, and custom orders. See everything we make.

Do you offer vegetarian options?

Yes. Our veggie tamales are made as their own recipe rather than a meat one with the meat left out, and our salsas are vegetarian. We cook in one family kitchen, so if you have a strict requirement please ask us at the booth and we will be straight with you about it.

Do you provide catering for events?

Absolutely. We cater weddings, birthdays, corporate events, community gatherings and memorials across Chico and Butte County — and we book as a food vendor at markets and festivals. Get a free quote.

How can I book you for my event?

Three ways: call (530) 783-7211, text (530) 354-0173, or fill in the form on our catering page. Quotes are free and we come back quickly.

What are your hours?

We answer the phone Monday through Sunday, 11:00am – 7:00pm. Our selling hours are the two markets: Thu 6–9pm and Sat 7:30am–1pm, both downtown.

Is there really a free bean dip?

There really is. Join our free monthly newsletter, then show the welcome email at our booth and your first bean dip is on us. One per household, no purchase needed.

Do you have a shop I can visit?

Not a storefront — we are a market stand and a family kitchen. The markets are where you buy from us in person, and everything else goes through the phone or the forms on this site.

Family owned. Best tamales and salsa in the North State.
