At Butte Valley Salsa & More, we’re all about bringing the fresh, authentic taste of Mexico to our neighbors in Chico and the surrounding cities. We’re a family-run food stand dedicated to serving the best homemade salsas and tamales — just like abuela used to make.
From our carefully selected ingredients to our time-honored recipes, every batch is made with love, tradition, and a passion for good food. How we work
Small batches, by hand, every week.
There is no factory and no shortcut here. Salsa gets roasted and blended in batches small enough that we taste every one. Tamales get folded by hand, one at a time, and steamed in the husk. That is slow and it does not scale well, and it is also the entire reason people drive across town for it.
We are at both downtown markets every week, so the food you buy was made days ago at most — not shipped, not sitting on a shelf with a six-month date on it.

Four things we will not do.
Every one is folded by hand. It is the slowest part of the week and it is not negotiable — you can taste the difference and so can we.
Vegetarian tamales every week, a genuinely mild salsa on the table, and simple options for kids. Tell us what you need and we will work with it.
We are a family business selling to our own neighbors at a farmers market. Keeping it affordable for Chico is the point, not an afterthought.
